The Ghastly Ones ~ A Haunting We Will Go-Go
“The Ghastly Ones invite you to be horrified to the point of sheer panic, as they transport you to the darkest depths of the bone-chilling night. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself changing from the gentle soul you are into a werewolf, evil space robot, or some other monster. Instead, just relax and enjoy the experience…”
From the eerie churning and swooning of the organ at the onset of the first track of A-Haunting We Will Go-Go, you’ll know you’re in for something creepy! And what The Ghastly Ones assert ~ they deliver, in spades! What you get are 19 spine-tingling spooky surf tracks, drenched in enough California reverb and throaty muscle guitar to drown Dick Dale in the moat around Doctor Diablo’s haunted castle.
Originally recorded in 1997 and produced by Rob Zombie for Geffen/Zombie Au Go Go, A-Haunting We Will Go-Go was everything that young ghouls and boils could sink their teeth into. Combining 60’s surf rock with campy voice acting reminiscent of Scooby Doo and the gang, otherworldly sound-effects, and groovy jungle voodoo rhythms, The Ghastly Ones’ debut album set the stage for a plethora of Spooky Surf bands to follow in their footsteps.

Some of the tracks from this album were rerecorded with cohort Captain Clegg on the organ for 2007’s Unearthed album. He officially joined the group at that point and made The Ghastly Ones a four-piece ensemble. Captain Clegg is also known for his onscreen appearance in Rob Zombie’s Halloween II.
For its cryptic cheek I give The Ghastly Ones’ A-Haunting We Will Go-Go…
